With daughters I felt a construction toy would offset what I abhorred in the toy industry\u2019s stereotyping. I have to confess I enjoyed the first train sets more than my kids. I would do track layouts and they would build houses for their \u201cfamilies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"439\" height=\"331\" src=\"http:\/\/dougstrains.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/DougAsh.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dougstrains.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/DougAsh.jpg 439w, https:\/\/dougstrains.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/DougAsh-300x226.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 439px) 100vw, 439px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Then the kids got too old for Lego so the set remained dormant for years until I discovered BrickLink. A web site that was MADE for me. I started expanding my old 4.5V set because engines with their own power can travel on a wider variety of track layouts than a train getting its power from the track. Staights, curves, crossovers, points, 4.5V, 9V, 12V &#8211; what a variety.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I started in Lions Bay with my 9\u2019x5\u2019 Ping-Pong table but soon out grew it and started adding 4\u2019x8\u2019 3\/4\u201d plywood \u201ctables\u201d. As the set grew, one large basement room 24\u2019x20\u2019 became the \u201cTrain Room\u201d. The look on my friends faces when entering the room can only be appreciated by other aficionados. My brother in law Ted said \u201cwhy don\u2019t you create a web site so you can find other Lego train enthusiasts that share your passion.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I moved to North Vancouver and started from scratch with a different room, but the same keen interest to build a big model so I could play and my grandchildren could play.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>So here is the web site for 4.5V and now RC Lego trains.
